Ultra-processed food remains in school meals

The municipal executive proposes rejecting a council initiative that demanded reducing ultra-processed food in daycare centers and schools. Food service manager Liisa Belaid justifies the position by stating that current nutritional recommendations are sufficient and the degree of processing does not make food unhealthy.

Meat consumption continues unchanged in schools

A second council initiative is also proposed for rejection - the Green Party's demand to halve the consumption of animal-based products by 2030. According to officials, the goal is not "realistically possible" considering children's eating habits and costs.

Early childhood education fees increase in August

It is proposed to increase early childhood education client fees starting August 1, 2026, due to index adjustments. The maximum fee would increase from the current 300 euros to 335 euros per month for the first child.

Family daycare providers' compensation increases

It is proposed to increase municipal family daycare providers' cost compensation by five percent. Lunch or dinner compensation would increase to 2.32 euros for children under school age.

School transport principles to be clarified

It is proposed to clarify school transport principles for secondary schools. In the future, free school transport would only be granted to the school designated by the municipality, no longer to secondary schools applied for as second choices.
