Mental health problems among young people increasing

Lempäälä's school health survey revealed concerning figures: 34% of upper secondary school girls suffer from moderate or severe anxiety (9% of boys), approximately 10% of upper secondary students do not feel they have any close friends, and 32% of upper secondary students experience daily fatigue or exhaustion.

Education services need an additional 912,500 euros

Largest expense items: home municipality compensations to other municipalities 500,000 €, service vouchers 260,000 € and statutory implementation of learning support 161,500 €. Family leave days have increased by 1,300 days, significantly increasing substitute costs.

Mobile phone ban being tested in upper secondary schools

Sääksjärvi upper secondary school is testing a complete ban on digital devices during the school day throughout November 2025. Currently, mobile devices may be used 3 x 15 minutes per day during outdoor breaks.

School lunches receive criticism

An increasing number of young people do not eat school lunch every weekday and perceive that quality has deteriorated. The food service manager reported on participatory development measures to solve the problem.
